BID MANAGER

Our client, a leading law firm, are seeking to appoint a highly professional and experienced Bid Manager to join their growing and ambitious Business Development and Marketing department. This role can be based in either in their Exeter or Bristol offices.

As a Bid Manager, you will take responsibility for the management of firm-wide bids across six locations, and all practice areas. This will range from public sector framework appointments to large scale corporate panels, working to tight deadlines as well as longer term submissions which may occur over weeks. This is a direct management role, supervising a team of three reports. The team supports the bid process and undertakes lower value bid work, and administrative tasks relating to the process. In this key strategic role, you will be expected to work directly with the CEO and management board on a regular basis, and Heads of Department whenever needed. Travel between offices will be essential as required, in order to develop strong working relationships with partners and meet business needs. If based in Bristol, you will be expected to spend at least two days per week in the Exeter office, where your Bids team is based.

Key aspects of the role include:

  • Oversee the delivery of bids identifying win themes and unique selling points

  • Work directly with the Partners to provide strategic focus

  • Manage, develop and continuously improve the firm's bid strategy

  • Maintain relationships with Subject Matter Experts across the firm

  • Ensure regular and transparent reporting including monthly Board reports

  • Provide advice, coaching, and best practice training across all levels of fee earners

About you:

With a strong track record in successful bid management, ideally in a legal, professional services or Partnership context, you have demonstrated your ability to use your negotiation and influencing skills to achieve great results. You are a self-starter with the proven ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships whilst adapting to differing working styles with a range of internal stakeholders.

You will work flexibly to ensure that a challenging workload is effectively managed, and deadlines are met. You have gained experience of managing a team, and understand how to develop and support your people in order for them to achieve their potential. You will have meticulous attention to detail, and high standards of written work, combined with the ability to work calmly under pressure. In your experience, you may have gained knowledge of Adobe In-Design, and we would also consider it advantageous to have a APMP Foundation Certification, or a strong understanding of bidding best practice.
